Final decision on Medway's stroke service
The Secretary of State has today agreed proposals for three new stroke units to be created for Medway and Kent.
The final decision about the long running stroke review will now mean that plans to create three new stroke units can progress.
The new stroke units will treat people in the immediate days after they have had a stroke and will be located at:
- William Harvey Hospital in Ashford
- Maidstone Hospital
- Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford
Thousands of people have been involved in the process to review the current stroke service in Kent & Medway and comment on the proposals for the future.
A final decision about the stroke service was referred to the Secretary of State for Health & Social Care, Sajid Javid, for review by the Independent Reconfiguration Panel.
