Healthwatch Medway comments on the suspension of GP surgeries and the Dermatology service run by DMC Healthcare

The Care Quality Commission has announced today that three GP surgeries in Medway, which were run by DMC Healthwatch, are suspended following an inspection last week.

In addition, the contract for the Dermatology service in Medway and North Kent, which was also provided by DMC Healthcare, has this week been suspended by the Kent & Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

St Werburgh Medical Practice and its branch surgeries in Stoke and Balmoral Gardens Healthy Living Centre have today closed their doors, but the phone lines remain open and patients can ring to book appointments.  We understand that some people may be struggling to get through, but the CCG have committed to more staff to man the phones during this difficult time.

Both organisations have had growing concerns about the service provided by DMC which haven’t been addressed, so they have taken urgent action to protect patients.

Patients will understandably be concerned about today’s announcement but the NHS will work together to ensure everyone gets the care that they need. If you are at all concerned do contact us on our freephone Helpline and we will ensure decision makers hear your worries.
