Talking to Medway's Vascular Surgeon

Today is International Women's Day. To celebrate we're talking to the inspirational Ginny Bowbrick. Ginny is a Mum of four and has worked in the NHS for 32 years, working at Medway hospital for 16 of those.

Ginny talked to us about what life has been like working at Medway Hospital during the pandemic and how she takes inspiration from her autistic twins to launch the 'Different, Not Less' campaign which promotes understanding of autism and learning difficulties. The campaign asks people to care, to listen and to understand.

When Ginny qualified, only 3% of surgeons were women. Thankfully that statistic has changed and Ginny is responsible for around 400 trainees at the School of Surgery for Kent, Sussex & Surrey.

Ginny takes the lessons she learned from other inspirational women, including female surgeons and her biology teacher, to pass on to her trainees. She tells us that she always tries to make time for others and give kindness wherever she can.

Listen to our conversation with Ginny to hear about the reality of being a Mum to four children, including non verbal autistic twins, and a doctor during the pandemic.

I want my daughter to have more opportunities than I did

Huge thanks to Ginny to giving up the time to chat with us. We think she's brilliant and we know you will too!

Happy International Women's Day!
